A SEat by the Window
Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia | July 26, 2019
This photo was taken in a bedroom in the Ennejma Ezzahra Palace. The Palace was built by Baron Rodolphe d'Erlanger, a French painter and musicologist who specialized in North African and Arabic music and houses Tunisia’s Center for Arabic and Mediterranean Music, as well as a collection of musical instruments, books, and other artifacts related to the music of Tunisia. It even serves as a concert venue. What stood out to me about this area aside from the beautifully vibrant colors is how ordinary it looks. Such a lounge areas are common across North Africa and the Arab World, and it was interesting to find such a common frame in such an opulent home.
